One of the 33 roosters rescued from a cockfighting operation on Hoffman Street in the Belmont section of Bronx, New York on late Thursday night, April 30, 2009. Three of the four injured birds had to be euthanized. Several are currently under the care of rescuers at Empty Cages Collective – emptycages.petfinder.org.

Currently, New York has one of the worst animal fighting laws in the country. Fortunately, legislation has been introduced (A.6287/S.3926) that will strengthen the animal fighting law in New York by making it a felony to possess animals for the purpose of fighting and attend an animal fight. Take action at: www.humanesociety.org/legislation_laws/state_legislation/...
